TASO-SSA Assessment Program
For referees wishing to have an assessment:
The fee for an assessment, either upgrade or maintenance, is $50.00 for the 2010 UIL Season. The TASO-SSA Chapter will pay $25.00 toward the cost for the first upgrade assessment for a referee that is primarily registered with the local San Antonio chapter and is in good standing. Any additional assessments will be at the full rate of $50.00.
Maintenance assessments are required for level I and II. TASO-SSA will pay the full cost for the first maintenance assessment for a referee that is primarily registered with the local San Antonio chapter and is in good standing. TASO-SSA will allow the referee to use either a NISOA or USSF maintenance or upgrade assessment as long as that assessment score is passing and the assessment occurred in the last 6 months. The referee must provide a copy of that assessment to the TASO-SSA Secretary.
If you are requesting an assessment you must send a check in the above listed amount to the Treasurer prior to the game being assessed. Once that check is received the Treasurer will notify the Director of Assessments and the Vice President of Scheduling to schedule the referee a game that will qualify for that assessment.
- Contact Diana Esquivel, Director of Assessments by
e-mail at desquivel2003@yahoo.com to request an assessment. Indicate your current UIL grade, and whether you want the assessment for upgrade or maintenance. Include
a list of your upcoming center assignments. You can indicate which game you would prefer to be assessed on, but it's useful to have a few choices in order
to assure assessor availability. You may have to work with the assignor to get an appropriate game assignment if you do not have one on your schedule.
- If a payment is required, once the payment has been received the assessment will be scheduled and an assessor will be assigned. You can check the Game
Details in Arbiter to see that an Assignor slot has been added to the game scheduled for assessment. There should also be a note added to game
describing the assessment: "3 to 2 upgrade", for example.
- Remember to contact your ARs in advance to ensure you have a full crew. Duals are not assessable at any level for any purpose.
- After the game, you will get a feedback form from the assessor within 1 week. It's not official until the paperwork is in, so if you don't get
something soon, contact the assessor and the Director of Assessments.
- If the game is deemed "Non-Assessable" (NA) for that level, you will not be charged for a subsequent assessment. But if the next one is also
non-assessable, you will have to pay for a third.
- If the Assessment for the Referee is not deemed an “upgrade” another Assessment can be requested but will be up to the discretion of the Director of Assessments
depending on the feedback from the Assessor and the availability of games for the Referee. Otherwise the Referee will have to wait until the next TASO season for
another assessment.
- If there is any problem with the Assessment please contact Diana Esquivel at desquivel2003@yahoo.com to discuss.
For assessors:
- The Director of Assessments will call or email the Assessors to be assigned. Tell me immediately if you're unavailable or have a conflict.
- Copies of the feedback forms must be sent within 1 week to a) the referees (don't forget the ARs), and b) Director of Assessments. E-mail is
encouraged, but if a referee is not on e-mail, a hard copy must be mailed. If you do not have the electronic forms (same as last year), let me know
and I'll send you copies.
- The assessment is complete when the paperwork is in. Upgrades become effective if the TASO board agrees with the recommendation from the Director of Assessments to
upgrade someone immediately upon receipt of properly completed feedback forms, otherwise the upgrade will take effect for the next TASO season. Only
after the completed reports have been received by the Director of Assessments will payment to the assessor be authorized.
- Assessor pay will be $50. You will receive full pay for a non-assessable game, but repeated NA's will be examined by the board. After an NA, you will
not assess the same referee again.
- You will need to file a monthly expense report with the Treasurer in order to be paid for the assessments.
The form is available online at TASO_Expense_Report.xls; there is also a link on the
Forms page.
